The count comes from Baker Hughes, Inc. and I research the individual wells on the web site of the Texas Railroad Commission. The Texas rig count includes all rigs operating in the Haynesville/Bossier Shale fields, including North Carthage, Waskom, Center, Beckville and Bossierville. There are a few rigs drilling rigs classified as "Wildcat." In some cases, usually based on the depth or the operator, these wells look suspiciously like Haynesville/Bossier wells. Because they are not specifically classified as such, I lump them together at the bottom of the page and do not count them on my official tally.
Baker Hughes releases the information around noon central time on Friday. I try to get the rig count list up in the afternoon but it depends on my availability.
